How to Reset Windows OS on Your Laptop

How to Reset Windows OS on Your Laptop

Option 1: Keep Your Files

  1. Open Settings: Click on the Start button (usually located in the bottom-left corner of your screen) and choose the gear-shaped Settings icon.
  2. Navigate to Recovery: In the Settings app, select “Update & Security,” and then click on “Recovery” from the left pane.
  3. Start the Reset Process: Under the “Reset this PC” heading at the top, click or tap on the “Get started” button.
Choose “Keep my files”: You’ll have two options:
  1. Local reinstall: If your laptop is a branded device (like Dell, ASUS, Lenovo, etc.), this process will restore the factory drivers, settings, and tools that were originally included.
  2. Cloud download: This option allows you to download a fresh copy of the Windows installation from the cloud and reinstall Windows. Note that it won’t restore any tools, apps, or custom settings that came with the original manufacturer image.

After following these steps, your laptop will reset to the factory settings while preserving your personal files. Remember that you’ll still need to check for updates afterward to ensure your system is up to date and reinstall any necessary apps12.

Option 2: Remove Everything

If you want a more thorough reset that removes all files, settings, and apps, choose the “Remove everything” option during the reset process. Just be sure to back up any important data before proceeding.

Remember, resetting your laptop is a significant step, so make sure you’re aware of the consequences and have backups in place if needed. Happy resetting! 😊🔧
